Breaking: Don’t destroy your reputation with unnecessary endorsement – Ohanaeze advises Obi over Enugu LP candidate

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has advised the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi not to damage his reputation by engaging in unnecessary endorsement of never-to-do-well politicians.

In a statement by its spokesperson, Chiedozie Ogbonnia, on Thursday, Ohanaeze maintained that Obedientt Movement which is today seen as a wave targetting at ousting the bad leaders in the society has the support of people from all the political parties in the country regardless of tribe, culture, and religion.

Ohanaeze said that it should be on notice that Obi enjoyed the maximum support of Nigerians because of his personal characteristics which include; competence, honesty, financial prudence, and humility, and has shown all his track records of achievement in both public and private sectors.

The group drew attention of Obi to the Punch Newspaper publication on March 30,22 with the title ”Enugu stinks, refuse takes over streets, block drainages, residents fear epidemics”, reminding him that the Enugu State environment at the time of the publication was under the leadership of the present day guber candidate of Labour Party, Chijioke Edeoga as the Commissioner for Environment, questioning the rationale for such endorsement when it was so apparent that a ministry was too difficult for him to run.

Ohanaeze never cared a hoot about reminding Obi that his earlier statements during his campaigns have always been electing competent and credible leaders, especially ones who have private-sector backgrounds and not career politicians who will always loot the state’s treasury, asking where Edeoga’s records of political achievement lie in the both private and public sector.

The organization warned Obi that any attempt to ride on Obidient Movement to enthrone any candidate on anyone will meet with stiff resistance and will also mar his reputation, and put his integrity at quest.

”Obi’s endorsement of Chijioke Edeoga comes to Ohanaeze Ndigbo as a shock. He shouldn’t mar his longtime built reputation because he wants his party to win the guber election at the detriment of the willful choice of the people. No, things don’t work like that. You can’t throw out the interest of the public away because you want your party to dominate the political space.

”I expect Obi to interrogate issues critically and not to be following the advice of his spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo whom we all know comes from Nsukka extraction and impose Chijioke Edeoga on us. We all worked assiduously in the past election to ensure his victory but as we are still hoping to recover our stolen mandate by going to the court of law, we should also know that Obdient Movement is ending with Peter Obi because no two persons are the same in character. In fact, Edeoga is the direct opposite of what Peter Obi represents. Allow the people to choose their leaders because they know them more than you,” Ohanaeze advised.
