The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has on Sunday cautioned Nigerians especially Enugu citizens on believing fabricated results that are being circulated on every social media platform.

This was contained in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye.

According to him, the commission is aware of the fabricated results being flooded on all the social media platforms which were unarguably being generated by the opposition parties in the state to give false hopes to their supporters.

Mr. Okoye stated that the purpose of fabricating such results by the political parties was to incite the people against the commission, accusing them of manipulation and causing chaos if the outcome of the results is not favorable to them.

He called on the Nigerian Police to step up action in arresting anyone that is announcing any result that is not signed by the commission or any individual acting in that regard without the authority of the commission.

The INEC commissioner further denied that he is not aware of any Labour Party candidate winning any position in Enugu State in the just concluded elections, notifying the people that only INEC is empowered by law to declare the winner of an election.

”It is a game by the opposition to cry wolves when the final election results are declared. They are giving the people false hope because many of the results we saw on social media don’t correspond with what we have here with the INEC. They are entirely different, and I would want the good people of Enugu State to be patient and calm as the tru aree results are being collated,” Okoye said.
