Breaking: Don’t vote for Party, vote for competent candidates – Obi advises Enugu electorate
Ambrose Ochei
The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi yesterday admonished the Enugu electorate not to vote along party lines but according to the credibility and competence of any candidate.
Mr Obi who made this known to the thousands of Enugu supporters present at his presidential rally held at Okpara Square yesterday in the state capital, said it had become imperative for the electorate to know who and where to vote since the struggle to get it right is devoid of party lines.
He further maintained that he was not unaware of the fact that some overzealous and desperate politicians who lost primary elections in other parties had abandoned their parties to defect to the Labour Party because of the popularity of the Obidient Movement, stating that a party should be seen as a body which could be made or marred by humans.
“In today’s Nigerian politics, the voters should be wise enough to vote for competent candidates who have pedigree and strong records of achievement irrespective of their party. It is time to usher in leaders with private sector background so that there will be prudent management of resources as it is being applied in the private sector.
The problem we have in Nigeria is that there are people who have been in various political offices for decades without any single achievement. Judge the person by the last position held. Ndi Enugu should learn how to separate the sheep from the wolves by learning how to vote wisely for individuals who have a good private sector background, and not party. I am Peter Gregory Obi, and I plead with you to vote for me because I have the needed track records, and I am the best in the race,” Obi concluded.
Recall that Obi during the LP political rally in Enugu refused to introduce Chijioke Jonathan Edeoga and other Labour Party candidates to the people of Enugu State while soliciting for votes unlike what was obtainable in other states he had visited.
