Herdsmen killings: Labour Party candidate, Edeoga cancels campaign in Isi-Uzo, says area no longer safe
The Labour Party guber candidate in Enugu State, Chijioke Edeoga has suspended his planned campaign in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area of the state.
He made this known during an urgent meeting held with campaign officials on Tuesday.
Nija Trends had earlier reported that gunmen suspected to be herdsmen were said to have invaded Eha-Amufu communities on Monday night and slaughtered many residents, a development that has turned survivors into refugees as they could be seen fleeing homes.
Addressing the press after a meeting with his campaign officials, Edeoga said that every campaign in the area would be put on hold pending when normalcy will be restored, stating that such environment is not suitable for the who-is-who in Enugu Labour Party to appear.
” We were to start from Ward 3 but we canceled it because of the killings. We have also postponed campaigns in other communities in Eha-Amufu here. Remember that if anything happens to the head, other body parts will follow. No need exposing our political warlords who are bent on taking out power from the opposition PDP. We are so saddened by this but we need to protect the living. We shall do so by not exposing them to further attacks by some of these killers who may be our brothers from the opposition party.”
Edeoga further urged his supporters to pray for him at all time as prophesies are being received of impending attacks on his life.
